Arsenal are set to start a bidding war for Wayne Rooney after the Manchester United frontman reiterated his desire to quit the club in a meeting with new boss David Moyes.
The Gunners have been interested in Rooney since the England international was said to have handed in a transfer request before the end of last season and Arsene Wenger is now prepared to make his move with a £25m bid.
Rooney and Moyes are believed to have met earlier this week with the former Everton boss attempting to convince the 27-year-old to continue his career at Old Trafford.
But it appears the showdown talks did little to change Rooney’s mind, several weeks after handing in a transfer request to Sir Alex Ferguson for the second time in three years.
