Global News Publisher Comes Under Fire For defamation Article

The publisher of Global News appears to have landed himself in a quandary for his article, which portrays the successful businessman and entrepreneur, Tunde Folawiyo in a negative light.

The article which refers to Mr. Folawiyo as a “reckless billionaire” was published in the 22nd July edition of the gossip magazine.

In a letter from Mr. Folawiyo’s solicitors:
The New Practice (TNP) dated 12th July 2013, Mr. Segun Ogunbunmi, the publisher of Global News, was given seven days to issue a full retraction and apology on terms acceptable to the billionaire or face legal consequences for his actions, not limited to charges for criminal .

The letter goes on to say that Global News has left itself exposed to Criminal Liability under Section 375 of the Criminal Code Law of Lagos State 2003.

Ogunbunmi could face up to one year in prison if found guilty of knowingly publishing defamatory material. The Global News publisher also faces further civil action if found unable to substantiate the libelous article.
